Officialism ensures that Guaido did not arrive on time 6:24

(CNN Spanish) - The deputy and opposition leader Juan Guaidó was ratified as president of the National Assembly of Venezuela this Sunday, in a session that was held at the headquarters of the newspaper El Nacional and not in the Federal Legislative Palace.

With a nominal and face-to-face vote of 100 deputies, Juan Guaidó will remain in charge of the Legislative Power for another year, together with Juan Pablo Guanipa, of the First Justice opposition party as first vice president and Carlos Berrizbeita of the also Venezuela Project opposition opponent, as second vice president.

To achieve reelection, 84 votes were needed.

During his speech, Guaidó again called his supporters to protest against the government. “It's the moment and it's what touched us as Venezuelans,” said Juan Guaidó.

Earlier, the ruling party had performed an act of swearing inside the official Parliament building where, without a vote, they appointed Deputy Luis Parra, former member of Primero Justicia, as the new president of the National Assembly

A video of Juan Guaidó trying to jump the fence of the Federal Legislative Palace went around the world this Sunday. Meanwhile, the ruling party - and several opposition dissidents - swore, without a vote, to Deputy Luis Parra, as the new president of the National Assembly.

Parra was expelled from Primero Justicia at the end of 2019, after a series of accusations against him and other deputies that he would have mediated by two businessmen related to the government in exchange for money. To deny the accusations and says it is part of a "dirty war."

But in another video, provided by Telesur and circulating on social networks, Guaidó is seen at the control point of one of the Palace's entrances. The national guards who were there authorized their entry but not that of other deputies, arguing that they were disabled. Guaidó refused to enter if his colleagues could not. The opposition suspected that this obstacle was another maneuver to prevent them from having the votes to re-elect Guaido.

And in a third video, recorded by CNN, a national guard tells Guaidó that deputies who are disabled will not be able to enter, to which Guaidó replied: “We will not allow a deputy, nor one to be prevented from passing to the Federal Legislative Palace, not one. It is not the Armed Forces that prohibits or does not allow a parliamentarian elected by the people of Venezuela to enter or not. ”

A representative of the Guaidó team told CNN on Monday that they “had restricted” entry to the headquarters of the National Assembly and that they would answer all questions about this situation at the press conference scheduled for Monday.

A "coup to Parliament" was denounced from the Twitter account of the National Assembly

The questioned president Nicolás Maduro told state television VTV that Guaidó did not want to enter “because he did not have enough votes”

Maduro also added that he recognized Luis Parra as the new president of the National Assembly and invited Venezuelans to prepare for legislative elections.

“I call the people of Venezuela to prepare to win the elections of the National Assembly, of course, we call all the people to participate. I said it, and when I say it is because we have certain elements. Write it down, this year there are elections of the National Assembly and all opposition parties will participate. Everybody. Write it down, ”said the president.

Both Juan Guaidó and Luis Parra called for a session on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Legislative Palace.
