Two rockets fell in the green zone of the administration district in central Baghdad, Arab media reported Wednesday evening. The news comes after last night Iran attacked two US bases in Iraq.

US President Donald Trump spoke Wednesday in response to the Iranian missile attack on US military bases in Iraq and Kurdish autonomy in northern Iraq. Trump said in a speech that his country would "immediately impose additional economic sanctions to punish the regime in Iran."

During the night, Iran launched more than 12 ballistic missiles at US bases in Iraq. For the first time, the attack was not carried out by Iranian-backed militias in neighboring countries, but by the Iranian armed forces themselves, from Iran. A statement in Iran's Fars News Agency stated that "revenge has begun on General Suleimani's death."

Iran's top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said: "Our military action is just a slap, and the key response will be for America to leave the region." In his speech this week, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah also marked the same goal - the removal of American forces from the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif sounds "milder" by saying that his country is not interested in war. In his official Twitter account, Zarif wrote that his country had taken proportionate measures to protect itself. "We are not asking for escalation or war, but we will defend ourselves against any attack," he stressed.

Later it became clear that American soldiers were not injured in the attack. The two main bases attacked are the Al-Assad airport in Anbar province, west of Iraq, and a military base near the city of Irbil in the Kurdish region of Iraq. The Pentagon said 15 ballistic missiles had been identified, ten had hit al-Assad base and one at Irbil base, four had missed. Iranian television claimed this morning that the missiles were doing heavy damage to US targets and that "80 terrorists were killed in the attack."

An official statement from the Revolutionary Guards stated: "The brave soldiers of the Revolutionary Guards space and air units fired dozens of missiles at a successful attack on al-Assad base in the name of Shahid Qasim Suleimani." The organization also said that "any American response will lead directly to the attack on Israel."
