(CNN) - Silvio Horta, the writer and producer of the popular ABC television series “Ugly Betty,” died according to a statement from his family. I was 45 years old.
“With great sadness we announce the death of our dear brother and son, Silvio Horta. Through his friendships, his love and his work in television and movies, Silvio touched the lives of millions. Silvio had a constant struggle with addiction and depression, but in spite of everything, he always found a way to turn his fight into a laugh. He was a kind and handsome man. He may be gone, but his light will shine, ”said his mother Anna and his sister Hilda Horta.

In 2007, Horta was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Best Comedy Series for "Ugly Betty", which aired on ABC from 2006 to 2010. The series was an adaptation of the Colombian soap opera "Yo Soy Betty, the ugly "
Horta was also known for his work as a writer on the horror movie "Urban Legend" and the television series "The Chronicle" and "Jake 2.0".
A funeral service will be held in Miami, and a memorial service in Los Angeles, the statement said.

The scriptwriter and creator of the soap opera “I am Betty la Fea”, Fernando Gaitán, died in January 2019 of a cardiorespiratory arrest in Bogotá, Colombia.
'Betty', its flagship soap opera, holds several records: it was broadcast in more than 180 countries, doubled to more than 25 languages and has more than 20 adaptations, in countries ranging from China, India, to Poland and Germany.
