Javier Cercas: There is nothing that poisons a society as much as lies

Javier Cercas, writer and winner of the 2019 Planeta Prize for his book 'Terra Alta', comments to Carmen Aristegui that the inspiration for this work was the fall of 2017, when the independence referendum of Catalonia was held. For Cercas, the need to clarify that much of what was said at the time was a lie not only inspired him to write, but that the process itself made him another person and made him another writer.
