The Ministry of Education announced the end of the campaign for early detection of leishmaniasis in primary schools in Deir Al-Zour, which included 61 thousand students, where necessary treatment was provided for the registered cases, which numbered about 2,700 injuries.
In a statement, SANA received a copy of it, the ministry explained that the campaign was carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Health and included more than 61 thousand students in 172 schools and revealed 2,754 cases of leishmaniasis, 48.4 percent.
The Ministry indicated that the injuries were recorded in specialized medical centers in the governorate and free treatment was provided, with awareness-raising sessions and education on the disease, how to transmit it, and prevention.
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease that is transmitted by the bite of a sandfly, which is a very small insect that is active at night. It bites open areas of the body. After a period of up to two months, red points appear to turn into pills and then ulcers.
