After the success of the Center for Agricultural Scientific Research in the endosperm to reach a modern technology for multiplication of stevia plant used as a natural substitute for sugar and its recent adoption by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, the opportunities for its propagation and work to spread its cultivation and encourage it are available to those concerned with agricultural affairs.

According to Dr. Wassim Mohsen, head of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in Sweden, he conducted, with the participation of Eng. Khazama Kuntar and the assistance of Engineer Maysa Amer, successful research experiments to develop large numbers of these plants with good specifications in a short time and within a limited area.

And Dr. Mohsen shows that after the approval of the research, the mother plant material for the plant is currently available at the center and is ready to be submitted to the concerned authorities to work to multiply and spread it among farmers based on its economic returns, health benefits and the importance of its investment for industrial, food and pharmaceutical purposes.

And Dr. Mohsen indicates that this plant is classified among the list of important plants intended for export to many countries and is known as the plant with sweet leaves, from which some of the glycosides responsible for the sweet taste in the leaves are extracted indicating that the active substance is natural and has no effect on the body, such as the sugar used by diabetics. Or those who follow diets.

The head of the center explains that the food manufacturers have introduced this compound in several areas, the most important of which are the manufacture of jams, milk, ice cream, tea, toothpastes, diet foods and foods.

It is mentioned that the stevia plant is a perennial plant native to South and Central America and is cultivated today in several regions of the world such as East Asia, knowing that it was discovered in 1887 in Paraguay and known at the time as a sweet plant and remained a confusing puzzle until the discovery of the crystal compound in 1931 by two French chemists where they found that it is sweeter than Food sugar 300 times without having a negative effect on the concentration of sugar in the blood.
