(CNN) - Several people were arrested in Iran for their role in the demolition of Ukrainian Airlines flight 752, Iranian judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said on Tuesday.
"The investigation has begun and several people have been arrested for the incident," Esmaili said, according to the Iranian semi-official news agency FARS.
Esmaili did not provide details on how many people had been arrested or what their roles had been in the incident.
Meanwhile, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said the Iranian government is responsible for the demolition of the Ukrainian passenger plane that left 176 people dead last week.
"The government is responsible and we will fulfill our legal responsibilities, but the most important thing is that people should be sure that such an event should not happen again," Rouhani said Tuesday in a public address in Tehran.
"The Armed Forces have admitted and openly declared their mistake and have apologized, this has been a good first step," said Rouhani.
