An Indian citizen confessed live on television that he murdered his partner, and he was arrested in the studios after the team called police. According to the BBC, Meninder Singh, 27, came to the "News 18" studios in the northern state of Chandigarh and told the photographer that he wanted to "confess." The team put him in the studio, broadcasting his "confession." He told the show's presenter that he had murdered his partner, Sarbjit Kaur, because conversations with her family about their wedding did not go well just because he was from another caste.

Singh said he had come to "confess" because police had been bullying his family since Kaur's body was found Dec. 30 at a hotel where the couple booked a room. Since then, he has been on the run. Police said he was suspected of murdering a former spouse he had in nearby Haryana State. He was released on bail as the investigation went on.

The event was compared to a central scene from the movie "The Joker" starring Joaquin Phoenix, raising questions about journalistic ethics. "He wanted publicity and sympathy, and he might also have hoped some lawyer would take the case because he has no money for one," Naha Yadav, a local police official, told the BBC.
