(CNN Spanish) - Quito firefighters managed to control the southern and central zone of a forest fire that is recorded on the Casitagua hill, located north of the Ecuadorian capital.

The mayor of Quito, Jorge Yunda, informed in a press conference on Thursday that when controlling these flanks, the homes in the area are no longer in danger and also ruled out the heavy oil pipeline located in the same place.

The fire chief, Esteban Cárdenas, said members of other fire brigades joined the operations on Thursday and there are already more than 400 troops deployed on the north flank line to prevent its spread.
