For nearly two thousand years, Jesus, Christ and the Son of God according to Christianity, has been portrayed, painted, and disqualified as a thin, white man with blue eyes, long dark hair, and a beard. Thousands of paintings and sculptures throughout the centuries have similarly depicted Jesus. Sometimes he dared to present a different interpretation, but he was completely ignored in favor of the popular description. Now, however, an academic expert who has researched the subject insists that the popular description of Jesus is likely to be far from reality.

Joan Taylor of Kings College, London, is a professor of Christianity and Judaism during the Second Temple period and a leader in scientific research on Jesus - and she claims that contrary to popular belief, Jesus had shorter hair and darker skin. In addition, she says he had a shorter beard and his clothes were plain and not colored, as often depicted in Jesus' illustrations. The professor also released a picture describing in her realist way what Jesus looked like.

In her article, Professor Taylor wrote: "Everyone knows what Jesus looked like. He is the most illustrated figure in Western art, known everywhere as having long and bearded hair, a long-sleeved cloak (usually white) and a mantle (usually blue), but what he really looks like as a human being I have already written about John the Baptist and his clothing, but not Jesus, but over the years I have been contacted by numerous documentary productions for guidance on visual aspects of ancient life. Clear instructions, I gathered information about what Jesus looked like, or rather, how he was said to be dressed. I want to share it here. "

Taylor added: "It should be emphasized that images of Jesus over time provide us with explanations of how they portrayed Jesus in different environments, but this does not prove anything about what he really looks like. Our images of Jesus were mostly created in the Byzantine period (fourth-sixth centuries). Jesus' Byzantineism was based on an image of a Greek-Roman deity, such as the famous statue of Zeus at the Olympics created by Fidias in the fourth century BC.

"What is it really like? In portraits of the mummies, the people were Greek-Egyptian, but there was also a large Jewish population in Egypt and some ethnic mixing. Their faces, very realistic, are the closest thing we have to the sight of the people who lived in Jesus' time and region. Imagine Jesus as a contemporary Jew, the paintings next to the mummies provide a good clue to his looks, but there is one more place to look for: the Dora European Synagogue, which dates back to the third century. Most, in my opinion, to that of Jesus because it shows how the Jewish sages were imaged in the Greco-Roman world. It is wrapped in a prayer shawl, because you can see tassels. This image is far more true as a basis for the image of historical Jesus than the adaptations of the Byzantine Jesus that became the standard. "
