An earthquake of magnitude 6 on the Richter scale hit Sulawesi island, central Indonesia, today, without reports of injuries or damage.
Reuters quoted the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center as saying that the epicenter was 116 km southeast of Gorontalo province in Indonesia, at a depth of about 131 km.
There was no warning of a possible tsunami.
Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because of the occurrence in the area known as the Pacific belt of fire exposed to such events.
