(CNN) - Prince Enrique and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, will renounce their royal titles and some state funds in a negotiated agreement to end a crisis that broke out after the couple announced they would move away from the royal family.

The news comes after a series of conversations with the queen, who said Saturday she was "pleased" to have found a "constructive and supportive path" for the Sussex.

Earlier this month, in a carefully written Instagram post and a new website, Enrique and Meghan announced their intention to leave the royal family. In it, they made it clear what they wanted: to work to be financially independent, while continuing to support the queen.

The question now is: did they get what they expected?
