Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov considered the Berlin conference on Libya a "small step" towards settling the crisis in this country.

"The meeting was useful in general," Russia Today quoted Lavrov as saying during a press conference held after the conclusion of the German capital, pointing out that the efforts of the parties concerned to launch a serious and constructive dialogue between the two parties to the crisis in Libya had not yet succeeded due to the existence of very large differences in the approach Sides.

Lavrov added that the closing statement of the conference confirms the necessity of achieving a permanent cease-fire in Libya and ensuring the right of all Libyan parties to benefit from the country's wealth, explaining that the final statement will be submitted to the UN Security Council for "consideration".

Lavrov expressed his hope that the proposals and recommendations that came out of the Berlin conference will help push the settlement process forward and help the Libyan parties to reach an agreement on the conditions that allow them to sit at the negotiating table.

Lavrov reiterated his country's position calling for non-interference in Libya’s affairs and said that his country insisted on including the main points of the UN Security Council’s decisions regarding Libya in the conference’s final document and in particular “the lack of a military solution to the Libyan crisis and the assurance that the determination of the country’s fate is in the hands of the Libyans themselves away from Any external interference. ”

Participants at the Berlin Conference on Libya stressed in their closing statement the need not to interfere in the internal affairs of this country and that the solution to the crisis there would be through a comprehensive political process.
