The Ministry of Interior announced that the Criminal Security Department seized two shops in the city of Damascus dealing in a currency other than the Syrian pound, the first intended to sell supplies and manufacture of shoes and the second intended to sell leather bags and shoes and their accessories, within the framework of its investigation, follow-up, and pursuit of persons dealing with non-Syrian pounds.
The ministry said in a statement that SANA received a copy of it today that the owners of the two shops who confessed to selling goods in US dollars were arrested and found a set of documents and documents recording their business and dealings other than the Syrian pound.
The Ministry indicated that a variety of foreign currencies were confiscated from the two localities, with a financial value of one million seven hundred and forty five thousand Syrian pounds from the first store and a financial amount of five hundred and fourteen thousand and four hundred Syrian pounds from the second location, noting that the confiscated amounts were delivered to the Central Bank of Syria.
