Central and Western District Councillors Ye Jinlong, Liang Huangwei, Huang Yongzhi, etc. wrote to HKU today, stating that they began to receive reports from several neighbourhoods yesterday morning. HKU rented the Hotel Jen Hong Kong on Hill Road for self-isolation by mainland students, but allowed the students Wandering and eating on the street, causing the public to panic. The virus will erupt and spread in the community. The school is required to explain whether the incident is true. It is also recommended that the arrangement for Chinese students to be isolated in any residential area should be terminated immediately. Can not go out for 14 days, otherwise the quarantined person's free access is equivalent to spreading the virus everywhere, making the measures useless.

HKU does not have enough single rooms and separate bathrooms for isolation

The school responded in the evening that the non-local students living in the student hall need to be isolated. The hall has made arrangements as far as possible. However, due to the facilities of some halls, sufficient single rooms and separate bathrooms have not been provided for self-isolation. The school arranged for some students to temporarily stay in the hotel and pay the accommodation fees on behalf of them, clarifying that the students staying in the hotel are in good health and have not visited Wuhan.

The school also stated that it would arrange to refer to the recommendations of the Government's Center for Health Protection. The university will strictly implement the guidelines for suspected cases. Any risky cases have been reported and sent to the hospital for testing. They will pay close attention to students who are isolated from the hotel, including daily. For measuring body temperature, it is required to wear a mask and eat in the room.

Ye Jinlong criticized the school for failing to deny the rumors. It just repeated the arrangement in accordance with the instructions of the Department of Health and did not explain the actual quarantine premises, which caused panic to the surrounding residents. It will continue to ask the University of Hong Kong to explain and discuss it at the District Council.
