The Trump administration last night (Friday) announced a reduction in immigration from six other states because of their failure to meet security conditions. The move is part of the administration's attempt to further reduce immigration to the United States ahead of the November election.
Government officials said the new restrictions apply to applicants for different types of visas from Nigeria, Sudan, Eritrea, Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar. This is not a complete ban on immigration from these countries, contrary to Trump's earlier decision in his presidency, which has provoked a worldwide storm because of his focus on Muslims. The restrictions will take effect on February 21.
The fight against immigration to the United States, which was one of the key parts of Trump's 2016 agenda, will also star in the current race. Recently, the White House declared war on "birth tourism", citing the sharp decline in the number of migrants coming through the border with Mexico and the progress in building the wall.
Restrictions on immigration visas have been imposed on Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Eritrea and Nigeria. This type of visa is granted to anyone who wishes to live in the United States as a permanent resident. In December, for example, 46,000 immigration visas were issued to the United States for citizens from around the world. They, like Sudan and Tanzania, will also no longer be included in the annual Green Cradle draw, which provides about 50,000 visas to citizens from around the world. There are no restrictions on the other types of visas, which include tourist visas, business or medical needs.

Four of the new countries are African, and three of them have a Muslim majority, which could renew the debate about being a discriminatory policy against minorities. Democrats and immigration advocates accuse the president of trying to expand the original 2017 immigration order, which included Muslim states, and a disproportionate focus on African countries.
Acting Homeland Security Minister Chad Wolf said in a statement to reporters that the six states with which the new restrictions were imposed did not meet the necessary security and information requirements, from insufficiently advanced passports to non-cooperation in disseminating information on terrorists and criminals. He said Belarus had taken steps on the issue in recent months and was therefore not included in the latest decision.
