Federal government officials revealed in an interview with NBC Network: Ali Yusef Ahmad al-Nuri, 42, who was wanted for the murder of two police officers and led by Al Qaeda in Iraq's city of Faluja, was arrested and brought before a judge. Al Nuri, who was arrested in the city of Phoenix in the state of Arizona in the United States, is charged with murdering two Iraqi federal police and planning additional attacks, and is wanted by state authorities. An Iraqi judge has issued him a extradition order.

After his arrest, Nuri was brought before a Phoenix judge and proceedings began for extradition to Iraq. The United States judicial system sought to point out that the charges against him had not yet been proven in court, but intelligence information about his actions had been obtained in the past.

It is not yet clear how Nuri came to the United States, how long he was in the country and whether he was suspected of seeking terrorist attacks in the country.

The city of Faluja, the predominantly Sunni city in the Sunni triangle north of Baghdad, has previously been the focus of an uprising of several organizations affiliated with Al Qaeda. After the city was conquered by ISIS and liberated from the organization's rule in 2017, by the Iraqi army and Shiite militias, al Qaeda's force waned on the site and its members went underground or spread throughout Iraq.
