The Senate of the United States, a majority of Republican, acquitted the president of the country, Donald Trump, on Wednesday of charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

The decision to acquit Trump reached enough votes as soon as 34 senators considered him "not guilty."

The Democratic opposition accused the 45th president of the United States of having used state resources, particularly military aid validated by Congress, to try to force Ukraine to "dirty" a potential political rival, former Democratic vice president Joe Biden.

Faced with the scandal, the president denounced being a victim of a "witch hunt" orchestrated by his opponents who would not have digested his surprise victory of 2016.

On Tuesday night, before Congress in full for the annual speech on the State of the Nation, Trump listed his achievements, both real and imaginary, which he presented as a challenge for the dozen Democrats who want to evict him from the White House. November 3

In the same House of Representatives that accused him, Trump shuffled all the issues of the campaign: his "powerful wall" against immigration from Mexico, his intention to ban "late abortion," "the great economic success" of the United States.

At no time did he mention the "political trial," which marked a deep rift between trumpists and democrats. But its shadow loomed over the enclosure.

The speech, and Trump's rebuff towards the president of the lower house, Nancy Pelosi, just before the ceremony began, when she rejected the usual handshake, only increased Democratic anger.

Seconds after Trump finished, Pelosi, a Democratic leader in Congress, broke his copy of the speech into pieces in a tough political gesture broadcast live on television.
