Cornelia John and her mother Gudrun Heigl have been running the cinema in Bahnhofstrasse for many years. In conversation with our newspaper, they reveal, among other things, the film highlights 2020.

Wolfratshausen - More and more small cinemas are on the brink of failure because they can no longer compete with the big chains. An exception is the Wolfratshauser cinema center "Sunrise Sunset". "We are a purely family business, when there is a need, everyone helps us," operator Cornelia John reveals the survival strategy.

Together with her mother Gudrun Heigl, Cornelia John runs the small playhouse on Bahnhofstrasse. The company has been family-owned for a long time: in the early 1970s, Heigl inherited the small cinema from her aunt. The 77-year-old has been working in the cinema business since she was 17. Even today, she is usually behind the bar every day.

The demonstrations in the two halls are closely scheduled, especially at the weekend. When mother and daughter can no longer keep up, support comes on: John's three children and her husband. "With us it is simply important that we all stick together."

The two experience similar loyalty from their visitors. “We have a regular audience that is loyal to us. We address almost everyone by name, ”says the 52-year-old proudly. Many guests appreciate this personal flair. You thank the duo - through many visits. "We were quite satisfied with the past year in the cinema," says John.

In summer, the "Leberkäsjunkie" pulled a large audience in front of the screen. This is the sixth film adaptation of Rita Falk's crime novel bestsellers, which revolve around the Lower Bavarian police officer Franz Eberhofer. John: “The films are now really cult. The fans are eagerly waiting for every next part. ”According to the cinema operator, this is indeed something unusual. “With several parts of the film, the hype often flattens out over time,” says the Wolfratshauser.

Filmed biographies were also in vogue last year. For example, "The boy has to go to the fresh air", which tells the life story of Hape Kerkeling, or "Bohemian Rhapsody", the film adaptation of Freddie Mercury's career. Young film fans eagerly awaited the launch of Frozen 2, the second part of Disney's Frozen Elsa flick, at the end of November.

The cinema year starts just as promising this year. "It will be exciting with the new James Bond film," reveals John. "No time to die" with actor Daniel Craig as a secret agent opens on April 2nd in German cinemas. Training for the laughing muscles promises to be the comedy "grandson for beginners", among others with the actor Heiner Lauterbach. The film will be released this Thursday, February 6th. The 2020 highlight is not difficult to guess. "It will probably be the 'Kaiserschmarrndrama'," speculates John with a wink. From August 13, Eberhofer's seventh case flickers across the screen.

Cinema-goers can also look forward to the end of the year: comedian Hape Kerkeling and entertainer Bully Herbig will play side by side in the comedy "Der Boandlkramer und ewige Liebe" from November 5th. And the fourth directorial work by actor Florian David Fitz, "Oscar's Dress", starts on December 17th.

Aside from the latest films, John and Heigl offer special events in their two halls. A French cinema evening is scheduled once a month. "We are showing an original French film with subtitles," explains John. There have also been Spanish film evenings. But getting good films in the original language in this language is unfortunately not always easy, John knows from experience.
