  • The young Schumacher family emigrated to Ecuador .
  • The Munich team is accompanied by the camera team of the Vox show "Goodbye Germany" .
  • The local people are not very happy to respond to the new arrivals.

Munich - No more stress: Tobias Schumacher wants to get out of Munich . In the program "Goodbye Germany" Vox accompanies his family's move. The 33-year-old from Munich is a banker and his wife Ana was born in Ecuador .

Together with her two children Raphael (2) and Christiane (nine months), the young family in Ana's country of origin is overwhelmed. More than “just chasing after coal”, discovering the world - a clearly formulated goal. Banker Schumacher took a sabbatical in 2016. The 33-year-old traveled to Ecuador and fell in love with his Ana 's hometown.

The young family invested directly in a piece of land : the new paradise costs 36,000 euros. Construction is on a six hectare piece of land near the Pacific coast . The Schumachers have many plans - first a house is to be built, until then he wants to live in a tent with his wife and children, explains the 33-year-old. A backpacker resort is due to open on the property in just three months.

"Goodbye Germany": Munich surprises woman with emigration plans

Ana Schumacher was very surprised by her husband's plans. The 26-year-old came to Germany at the age of fourteen, worked as an electrician. She would have “been able to endure a while in Munich” before returning to her native Ecuador.

An undeveloped piece of land should make the young family happy. The whole thing has a couple of hooks: no electricity , no sanitary facilities , no water. But not enough, snakes and spiders prepare the family worries - also because of the children. After all, banker Tobias and his family don't have any money problems.

Family from Munich emigrates to Ecuador - friend wants to help

The Schumachers have built up a financial rescue package over the years, 45,000 euros in severance pay offer additional buffers.

Accompanied by the "Goodbye Germany" team, a farewell is celebrated in a Munich bar - no one feels emotionally moved here. Ana leaves her best friend behind, the two have known each other for fourteen years.

Tobias is optimistic about the future and looks forward to the new challenge . His best buddy Gino is impressed. "If someone can do it, then he," he encourages the emigrant . Nevertheless, the Schumachers do not have to do without support from home. A family friend took a few months off to help build the resort.

"Goodbye Germany": Young people from Munich want to start a new life in Ecuador

The Schumacher journey started at Munich Airport . The goal: Canoa, a village with 7,000 inhabitants. A year ago, the Schumachers bought their dream property there.

An outdoor stove, two large tents and a chicken coop will soon be there. Tobias Schumacher's most important project: a house with a compost toilet . But emigration means stress: the family had already grown numerous types of fruit in the previous year. The plants were taken care of by friendly neighbors - Tobias rated the yield with repeated "Geil" calls. The planning is ready: in three or four months, the first one or two huts should be on the property and be rented out.

Anger in paradise: "No wonder that so many people die here"

Half a year later the situation is different. There are now paths on the untouched property; it was planted and built. This has its price: Tobias lost ten kilos. But that's not just because of the healthy self-catering lifestyle , but because of the amount of work . “Emigration is stress. Many things come unexpectedly. "The man from Munich looked disappointed. The chic hut on stilts in which the family lived was built from comparatively expensive but inferior materials .

The family was completely unprepared for the rainy season . The hostel -plans are initially deleted. The rain is not the only problem. "I am damned worried about my family," Tobias reveals. The former owner of the property claims part of the country and is said to have said: "No wonder that so many people die here in Ecuador because of land ."

"Goodbye Germany": Locals threaten young Munich family

Together with Ms. Ana, Tobias faces the opponent . He even wanted to take his knife with him. Ana forbids him. This is followed by a heated discussion with the previous owner together with all the villagers who opposed Tobias in solidarity.

A conversation without a goal: Tobias is "almost so angry that you could cry" - and not smarter either. How seriously should he take the statements? "We felt extremely threatened today. I will probably not sleep much tonight," the father of the family records .

But the family also has other worries: "Somehow coal has to come in." Plans are constantly being thwarted: the strawberry harvest is destroying the ants, at least the coffee is growing well. The savings must now last longer, the expenses have been cut back. "We go 'poco a poco ', you can hear that from all sides: little by little ", Tobias is determined.
