Update 17.11: the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder is already on the way to Veitshöchheim. If he had caused a sensation with various costumes in the past years, he is obviously trying to convince this year with an understatement. "Bavaria is colorful," Söder writes on Twitter, sharing a picture of his chin. Also to be seen: A colorful bow tie that looks a bit like he has just converted the Post its from the party office:

Small statement even without a costume: Bavaria is colorful - Democrats stick together. Even in carnival. Just drive to # Veitshöchheim. # Fif20 #fastnachtinfranken pic.twitter.com/CUxKCjrxJC

Original message from February 14, 2020:

Veitshöchheim - This year's Franconian carnival "Fastnacht in Franken 2020" is an occasion for two birthday celebrations: the cult show celebrates its 33rd anniversary under the motto "Carnival in Rio de Janeiro" . In addition, the Fastnacht Association Franken is twice as old - it celebrates 66 years of existence. Celebrities from church, politics and business as well as the Franconian Fastnacht elite are invited to Veitshöchheim.

Carnival in Franconia 2020: The question is - like every year, is it getting dirty - or is it good?

It starts on Friday, February 14th, from 7 p.m. - and all the fun will be broadcast live from the Mainfrankensäle in Veitshöchheim on Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) . The famous Shrovetide stars “Dreggsagg” Michl Müller, ventriloquist Sebastian Reich - with hippo lady Amanda and the popular cabaret duo Volker Heißmann and Martin Rassau are said to be on stage on Friday evening. In addition, laid speaker Peter Kuhn is said to give the ceremonial meeting its special flavor.

The best garden dancers from Franconia also dance. But not only the classics are supposed to make the “Fastnacht in Franken” * an unforgettable event. The a-capella band “Viva Voce” from Ansbach and Thomas Väth, the “blacksmith from Bischbrunn”, are celebrating their premiere on the Veitshöchheimer Fastnachts stage with a big “Helau”. The appearance of the "Besenbinder", the guard of the Carnival Club Röttenbach, should also inspire.

Never seen before: For the first time, the colorful Brazilian Carnival is to take place - according to the motto. "Colorful, spirited and hot-blooded like in Rio", according to Fastnacht editor-in-chief Norbert Küber from BR-Studio Franken. Also present: the Amorbach monastery singers, Klaus Karl-Kraus, Ines Procter, Otmar Schmelzer, Oliver Tissot, Matthias Walz and the Tanzsportgarde Veitshöchheim.
