Fire in Palermo: a carpentry burned down and a family had to be evacuated

The carpentry depot located in Palermo caught fire on the morning of this Saturday and a two-year-old girl affected by smoke had to be transferred to Fernández Hospital. The City Firefighters managed to control the fire, but the flames were not extinguished yet.

The incident began after 10:30 in Gorriti 5400 , between Juan B. Justo and Humboldt. On the ground floor there is a carpentry and the fire broke out on the first floor, which is used as a warehouse.

"The fire was on the first floor where there is a warehouse, but it is already controlled . On the second floor there is a house and people who were on a terrace were evacuated," he told Télam Néstor De Gregorio, Fire Chief .

Alberto Crescenti, the director of SAME, said that there were six ambulances and a triage unit.

"There were a lot of llamas when we arrived. The upper floor began to smoke, where there was a family and we took a two-year-old girl to the Fernández Hospital for smoke inhalation," he told Télam Crescenti, who said the girl was conscious.

In addition, he noted that "we oxygenate four people in ambulances" that did not require a referral to health centers.

Veronica, the mother of the transferred baby, told Télam that the carpentry is her father's and that, at the time of the fire, she was with her husband, Rubén, and her daughter on the second floor of the building.

"My dad was downstairs and a neighbor told him there was fire, so we went out on a roof and stayed on the roof next door . Firefighters came and took us out of the gym in Humboldt. They had to break a glass to get us out ", said the 29-year-old girl, whose daughter remained hospitalized this noon out of danger in Fernandez.
