Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reiterated that relying on the United States of America will not achieve security in the Gulf region, expressing his country's readiness for dialogue in order to reach a security mechanism with the countries of the region.

Fares news agency quoted Zarif as saying in his speech during the Munich security conference: "Reliance on Washington will not achieve security and that Gulf security will be achieved from within the region and not by relying on America."

The Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, presented the "Hormuz Security Initiative" to the United Nations to ensure security in the region and to secure the cooperation of the countries of the region and their capabilities to maintain security.

In another context, Zarif stressed that Iran is not ready to negotiate again on the nuclear agreement and that direct dialogue between Tehran and Washington is not on the table, demanding that America return to the negotiating table with the existing five plus one group from which Washington emerged unilaterally.

On the other hand, Zarif described the assassination of the commander, Qassem Soleimani, as a cowardly act, saying: “This American measure was definitely a terrorist measure.” And the response to this measure by his country was a legitimate right for Tehran based on Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Zarif had confirmed earlier today in an interview with the American news channel NBC on the sidelines of the security conference that the United States took the initiative to act aggressively against Iran, prompting Tehran to respond in an appropriate manner through which it asserts that any action against it has consequences, stressing that the administration The US is the cause of the crisis between the two sides, and US President Donald Trump should listen to advisers who "understand well the situation in the region."
