A state of emergency was declared in Washington State on the West Coast of the United States after the death of the first patient affected by Covid-19 in a care center in Kirkland, in the suburbs of Seattle . Two other patients at the center were diagnosed as having been infected with the virus. As of Sunday, around 70 cases had been identified in the United States. But the discovery in several states of the West Coast - California, Oregon and Washington - of patients who have not traveled abroad or who have been in contact with travelers, fears to the authorities that the epidemic is spreading rapidly in the rest of the country.
