Missing in Hessen: The search for Christian N. from Eschwege remains unsuccessful. A diving unit was looking for the man in a pond on the Hohen Meißner.

  • The search for Christian N. from Eschwege in Northern Hesse continues. There has been no trace of him since the end of January.
  • Federal police divers searched the Frau-Holle-Teich on Monday (02.03.2020).
  • The search in the calf lake on the "Hohen Meißner" was not yet possible.

The search for Christian N. remains unsuccessful. On Monday, a diving unit searched the Frau-Holle-Teich am Meißner. The group actually wanted to search the calf lake together with Kripo officers from Eschwege . But ice and snow made diving with the right equipment impossible. This measure will therefore be postponed.

"The lake would have been the closest body of water to Christian N.'s car, but now we had to improvise and started in the pond," said Mirko Ewald from the local criminal police . Reminder: After private disputes , Christian N. disappeared from Hoheneiche at the end of January. A few days later, the investigators found his car in the parking lot on the Meißner plateau.

“There is no more clue a month later. After today's dive, we can only rule out that Christian N. drowned himself in the Frau Holle pond or that his body was there, ”said Ewald.

But that is also a finding. And in the same way you will shortly tackle the calf lake and continue your search there. Because the forest area has now been sufficiently searched. The divers from Mühlheim near Offenbach are the only unit of the Hessian police that specializes in this and are therefore deployed nationwide, as Jörg Sauerbier explains. His job yesterday was to guide the colleague in the water, who does not want to be named, with a rope attached to his body and to communicate with him by radio.

"The difficulty is that the pond is not so deep, in the middle a maximum of two meters, on the edge not even half," says Sauerbier. On the one hand, this means that the diver has to crawl for the most part because there is not enough space to swim , and on the other hand that the visibility is poor due to the swirled up mud.

“The colleague feels his way through the water. And I always guide it in half radii from left to right and vice versa, so that in the end we searched every spot on the bottom, ”says Sauerbier. Additional difficulty: the water temperature . Yesterday it was just under four degrees Celsius.

This makes the search increasingly difficult. "The suit protects at the beginning, but over time you notice the cold," says the experienced policeman from southern Hesse.

Either way: Christian N. was not in the Frau-Holle-Teich. That leaves the calf lake. “In theory, a person can drown himself in a body of water as shallow as the pond, but the probability is naturally higher in the lake,” explains Mirko Ewald from the Kripo. An appointment there will follow.

Some people in Northern Hesse miss every trace despite searching.

Search was successful, Seraphine D. is back home.
