A red dot on the map. On January 24, 2020, the French discovered on their territory the first case of a new infection born in China a few weeks earlier. Hundreds of others have appeared since then, in all regions of France.
This map lists the cases of Covid-19 reported in France since its appearance. Slide the cursor from one day to the next to see the evolution of the epidemic. Cases are indicated by dots of various sizes depending on their number. Move your mouse over the bubbles to obtain more details on the cases reported: number of people infected, age, sex, suspected source of the contamination.
Our database was established from elements published by various sources: regional health agencies (ARS), General Directorate of Health, santepubliquefrance.fr, prefectures of departments and regions, and articles published in the local press and national. These sources cite to each other and do not use constant criteria to identify cases: some count within the same group of cases distributed in several regions but linked to the same epidemic focus, others point to the places of 'hospitalization. It also happens that certain sources contradict or delay providing the most recent figures, in which case Le Figaro favors the low estimate, or its own count if possible. Finally, we make an effort to date the cases at the time of their detection, and not of their official announcement. For these reasons, the Figaro countdown occasionally differs from the balance sheet held on santepubliquefrance.fr.
The cases are localized according to the communes where the infected people live or work. In the absence of this information, we take into account the department or region of residence. People on the move have been attached to their commune of origin, or to their place of care, depending on the relevance (collection of cases, links with a center of infection, etc.). The French detected abroad, such as the three French infected with the Diamond Princess , or the French who were quarantined on Monday March 2 in Dakar, are not included in our accounts.
