It is to counter an exceptional crisis that the Italian government of Giuseppe Conte plans today to mobilize up to 7.5 billion euros, twice as much as what was initially envisaged. A plan which, like that of 2 March, focused on the "red zones", these eleven municipalities placed in isolation in Lombardy and Veneto, plans to help businesses and households. But this time all over Italy, emergency health measures aimed at limiting contagion having been imposed throughout the territory.
Hiring of thousands of people in the health services has been announced. A plan equivalent to 0.36% of GDP, which will bring the country's 2020 deficit to 2.5% of GDP, for which Rome has requested flexibility from Brussels. Which, promised Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, will be welcomed.
