Because of the spread of the corona virus, hamster purchases sometimes occur in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area. Noodles and toilet paper are in demand.

County - If you are a little picky when shopping, it is not easy for you when you go to the nearest discounter or supermarket. The fear of the corona virus is slowly but surely spreading in the district. Many people in the region seem to be concerned about the consequences of spreading the novel virus. Therefore, there are now more and more “hamster purchases”.

Noodles and toilet paper asked

Franz Öfner, head of Edeka Bartl in Farchant, has recently observed a change in the consumption behavior of some customers: "There is an unusually high demand for long-lasting food." Ready meals, pasta and toilet paper are particularly in demand. He currently does not see the possibility that there will be problems with the subsequent delivery of these products. The situation is different with disinfectants: "You have to see how things will go in the near future," says Öfner. But his customers are not yet in front of empty shelves.

Lady at the cash register soothes

The situation in the Norma branch in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is very different. Toilet paper is currently no longer available there. Not a single role can be seen. "It is really incredible, it has been bought up recently," reports one stunned employee. The stock of pasta products is not sold out, but is strongly decimated. Anyone who has come to buy spaghetti or maccheroni must then leave the shop empty-handed. "The next delivery is expected to come later in the day," the lady at the checkout reassures.

Aldi feels well equipped

Consumers at Aldi-Süd cannot currently afford to be too picky when buying toilet paper. When a customer asked what had happened to the three-layer version, an employee replied: "We have nothing of that anymore." The man wanted to know when there would be another to buy. "Next week," she replies succinctly. However, the discounter giant sees itself well equipped for the changed situation: "Although we currently see a higher demand for longer-lasting products such as canned goods in individual branches, the supply situation in our sales area is good," emphasized press spokeswoman Anamaria Inden.

Can ravioli in short supply

Ready-to-serve meals have always been long-lasting, easy to store and therefore ideally suited for hoarding purchases. There is currently a shortage of goods at a Lidl branch in the Dosenravioli district. "It's just amazing," says a woman who is standing in front of the empty shelf and now has to go home without the pasta dish she wants.

At Feneberg everything is the same

But there are also stores where no stock purchases have been made yet. So far, for example, this has not been observed at Feneberg in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. "Everything is still the same here," says a saleswoman relatively calmly.

Incredulous shaking of the head

The sight that often comes to the perplexed consumers in the various grocery stores and discounters is always the same: on closer inspection, it becomes apparent that some shelves and compartments are empty than is normally the case. Often affected are toilet paper, canned dishes and pasta products. The reaction of the people standing in front of shelves, some of which have been completely emptied, ranges from slight frowns to incredulous shakes of the head. Every now and then some of them ask the staff. It is not uncommon for the answer to be: "Unfortunately, this is currently sold out."

Find a replacement product

So it is not unlikely that in the near future you will have to replace the product of trust with another one - namely one that is just in stock.
