The authorities in New Jersey reported Tuesday of the first fatality due to coronavirus, a 69-year-old man with health problems, in this northeastern state of the United States.
New Jersey Department of Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said the man was a resident of Bergen County and suffered from diabetes , as well as other conditions.
The deceased had traveled to New York , where more than 170 cases were registered. He had not left the country.
The number of cases registered in the state of New Jersey totaled 15. Tuesday, two of them in Bergen, including the deceased, and two in Burlington County.
As reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cases in the United States amounted to 647, with at least 25 deaths.
