Snow chains are actually supposed to prevent a vehicle from slipping. In the accident on Thursday in Urfeld, the opposite was the case.
Walchensee - A small tractor slid down the access to the youth hostel in Walchensee's Urfeld district on Thursday around 11:15 a.m. Apparently the wheels locked when the driver - a Garmischer (43) - wanted to switch on the all-wheel drive. The snow chains on the tires looked like runners on the steep path, the police say. The vehicle overturned halfway, injuring the man's arm. A helicopter took him to the hospital. The damage is 1000 euros.
