Three Kafr Qara residents were arrested Friday after a complex police operation on suspicion of breaking into homes and stealing weapons from soldiers.

The investigation began after numerous complaints of weapons theft from soldiers in the Binyamina area. After extensive police surveillance, a squad of thieves was discovered who used to track soldiers on a weekend break, break into their homes or vehicles, and steal their weapons.

The arrest operation included the use of an undercover policeman disguised as a soldier. In the policeman's car, parked in Zichron Yaacov, M-16 weapons were placed. The suspects were identified following the undercover police officer from Binyamina train station and then trying to break into the police officer's car.

The three detainees, in their twenties, were brought to the Haifa District Court, where their detention was extended until Tuesday next week.

Police said: "This is a high-quality arrest by the Israeli police against crime phenomena in the field of weapons, with the aim of minimizing the accessibility of weapons to criminal and other agents alongside the arrest of perpetrators for the purpose of maintaining public safety."
