The Minister of Endowments, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Sattar El-Sayed stressed that the series of precautionary measures taken by the government with a view to countering the spread of Corona virus in the country requires moral and social discipline by all sectors without exception and adherence to all instructions issued by the Ministry of Health in this regard.

Minister Al-Sayyed said in an interview with the Syrian channel this evening that, in conjunction with the government's announcement to close all gathering places, the Ministry of Endowments, the Federation of Levant Scholars and the Fiqh Scientific Council studied the reality based on the reports of the Ministry of Health and issued a fatwa to suspend Friday prayers, sermons, and congregational prayers in Syrian mosques temporarily.

The Minister stressed that the Ministry of Awqaf is concerned, like other ministries, with taking measures to prevent this "epidemic", especially since there are large crowds of citizens who come to perform the duties of worship in the homes of God on Friday, indicating that shaking hands is one of the most important ways of spreading the virus.

The Minister of Awqaf explained that the Friday prayer and its engagement is the imposition of an eye on all people, pointing out at the same time that when there is an "unprecedented state of epidemic", the jurists issue the fatwa they derive from the legal texts because preserving the human soul is one of the purposes of Islamic law.

The Minister pointed out that saying that Syria is still free from the spread of the Corona virus and that no infection has been recorded yet does not mean that the virus does not exist, especially since its incubation period extends to 15 days, indicating that its risk does not lie with the death rate but rather with a rapid spread.

The Minister of Awqaf indicated that there is a difference between spreading panic and societal awareness, especially on social media, saying: “We must be frank in informing people about the facts, but there must be moral discipline because the issue relates to the health of people and their lives and we are facing a strange and dangerous reality and the major countries You have not been able to control this epidemic yet. ”
