The Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections confirmed that Decree No. 86 of 2020 issued today requires that the date of elections for members of the People's Assembly be postponed until May 20 only, without any amendment or change in the procedures prior to the electoral process.
The head of the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections, Judge Haider Rahma, stated in a statement to SANA that the stage of the elections has reached the results of candidacy and the accepted and announced names remain the same and every candidate whose application has been accepted remains in his position according to Elections Law No. 5 of 2014.
Today, Decree No. 86 of 2020 was issued to postpone the elections for members of the People's Assembly until Wednesday, the 20th of May 2020, after it was scheduled to take place on the thirteenth of next month, as part of the precautionary measures taken by the state to deal with the Corona virus.
