Municipal: ministers Darmanin, Lecornu and Riester elected in the first round, Philippe on waivers

Several ministers won their bet by succeeding in getting elected this Sunday.

Gérald Darmanin, Sébastien Lecornu and Franck Riester can breathe. The coronavirus epidemic, which disrupted participation in municipal elections, will not have prevented their election in the first round. Top candidate in Tourcoing (North), Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of Action and Public Accounts, was elected with 60% of the vote. He is far ahead of the left list led by Franck Talpaert, who collects 10.78% of the vote.

Sébastien Lecornu, the minister responsible for local government, was number 3 on the “Vernon Generations” list, in his stronghold in the Eure. Its list won in the first round with 66.38%, ahead of that of EELV (15.58%) and that of the PS and PC (15.34%).

Riester, positive for coronavirus ... and elected

The Minister of Culture, Franck Riester, was also elected in his fief, in Coulommiers (Seine-et-Marne). The “Coulommiers tomorrow” list, led by Laurence Picard, won with 58.55% of the votes in the first round. "Thank you to the Columériennes and Columériens who came to vote (...) With Laurence Picard and the whole team, we will live up to their confidence" , reacted on Twitter the Minister, who had to interrupt his campaign after being tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week.

Contrary to what he hoped, Édouard Philippe, however, failed to be elected in the first round in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime). The Prime Minister obtained 43% of the vote and dominated the Communist deputy, Jean-Paul Lecoq (34%) and the environmentalist, Alexis Deck (9%) by eleven points. The tenant of Matignon could therefore be threatened if the left manages to unite in the in-between towers to block it.
