Edouard Philippe came first in the first round of municipal elections in Le Havre on Sunday with 43.60%, ahead of the list led by PCF deputy Jean-Paul Lecoq at 35.88%, according to final results.
This ballot was marked by a strong abstention of 60.4%, against 52.9% six years ago. In 2014, Edouard Philippe was elected in the first round with 52% of the vote.
The candidate Prime Minister saw his election campaign disrupted by social protest against the pension reform and the coronavirus health crisis. He had to cancel his last meeting due to a health crisis.
Édouard Philippe, who has left his armchair at the town hall since entering Matignon in 2017, had decided to be at the top of the list. He is obviously supported by En Marche. If elected, he will leave, he warned, his mayor's chair until the end of his lease in Matignon.

During the previous municipal election, Édouard Philippe, then a pillar of the entourage of Alain Juppe, was elected in the first round, with 52.04% of the vote. The former judoka Camille Galap, head of the PS list, had collected 16.75% of the vote and five municipal councilors, as much as the Left Party of Nathalie Nail.

In the first round of the 2017 presidential election, Jean-Luc Mélenchon came out on top, with 29.81% of the vote, ahead of Emmanuel Macron (21.42%), Marine Le Pen (20.25%) and François Fillon (14.92).
In the second round, Emmanuel Macron took the victory with 67.33% of the votes cast.
