The island of Kea is located not far from Athens. Renowned for its coves and crystal clear beaches, its green landscapes, it is part of the Cyclades archipelago. This little corner of paradise is rarely on news radar. On Monday, a 40-meter long Turkish tanker failed, undoubtedly diverted by the strong winds that often blow over this part of the Aegean Sea. It was then 4 a.m. This 60s ship came from Smyrna, Turkey, and was heading for Italy, when it began to pitch and asked to moor at Kea. The five coastguards of the island alerted did not see, to their surprise, the crew descend, but they found themselves facing 190 refugees and migrants, including 38 young children and three women ready to give birth.

All were, apparently, in good health - a reassuring finding, in the midst of a health crisis due to Covid-19, while confinement and social distancing are essential everywhere.
