How to live with a person with coronavirus 1:24

(CNN Spanish) - Imagine that you have just been confirmed that you have the Covid-19 virus, but that your case does not require hospitalization.

According to a guide from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, from that moment you must isolate yourself so as not to infect others and therefore, you should not go to public places, either for work or for fun.

A health authority must determine that you are in a stable condition to receive care at home. Consideration should be given to whether the patient will have one or more people to take care of him, a separate room, if possible with a private bathroom and good ventilation where he should spend most of his time, access to his medicines and protective sanitary material and, of course, provisions .

You should be separated from your family or those who live in that space, with special care if they are people in risk groups, either because of their advanced age or because they have previous medical conditions or a weak immune system.

Although there is no record of animals infected with Covid-19, it is recommended to avoid contact with them.

Protection measures

You should wear a mask when you are around other people, be it at home, on the street or in a vehicle. If you can't wear that mask because it bothers you to breathe or for any other reason, the rest of the people should put one on.

Keep a distance of at least two meters with the rest of the people in the house.

Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and wash your hands frequently; Remember: with soap or alcohol-based disinfectant and for at least 20 seconds.

Don't share dishes or towels, and often clean the surfaces you touch the most, such as chair backs, table surfaces, faucets, toilets, switches, doorknobs, remote controls, mobile phones, tablets, and computer accessories.

Clothes and sheets with traces of body fluids should be picked up with gloves and a mask and immediately washed at a temperature of 60 to 70 degrees Celsius.

The patient's clothing should not be mixed with that of the rest of the residents of the home.

Dispose of disposable masks and gloves in closed bags and always wash your hands after performing these tasks.

Watch your symptoms, if they complicate and you need medical assistance, at home, medical center or hospital, notify your condition of infected with the virus before they treat you.

And remember two things: according to the World Health Organization, patients who have overcome the virus can still infect for at least two weeks and, therefore, the end of their isolation has to be decided by a health authority.
