The 2019-20 season for both men and women had been initially postponed until Friday, April 3, however, the extension was agreed after a conference call of the 20 clubs in the English Premier League on Thursday, March 19.
With the initiative to end the current season, the deadline to return to action has been extended indefinitely as part of an agreement with the Football Association of England (FA). This is the FA statement:
We are united in our commitment to find ways to resume the 2019/20 football season and to ensure that all national and European club cup and league matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.
We have collectively supported UEFA in postponing EURO 2020 to create space on the calendar to ensure that national and European league and cup matches have a better chance of being played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition .
FA rules and regulations state that the season will end no later than June 1, and each competition, within the limit set by the FA, will determine the length of its own playing season.
However, the FA Board has agreed that this limit be extended indefinitely for the 2019/20 season in relation to professional soccer.
Furthermore, we have collectively agreed that professional play in England will be further postponed until April 30.
The Premier League is led by Liverpool with 82 points, with 9 dates to go until the end of the season. If Jürgen Klopp's team adds two victories, he will be crowned champion.
