Coronavirus: "The human animal in times of crisis"

While our societies are called for a time to general containment, we can only be dumbfounded in front of the videos where we see large gatherings of individuals defying basic public health requirements in the name of their right to have fun in a pack. Are they overly carefree or just stupid? Here, we see thousands of American students enjoying the “spring break” in Florida while showing off. There, we see countless walkers moving around in Barbès, as if nothing had happened. This without forgetting the stubborn old men and young idiots who proudly display their disbelief at the health emergency, as if there was behind this crisis a large-scale manipulation in the service of a planetary conspiracy. The conspiracy that poisons the public mind is more toxic than ever.

To these ordinary incivilities, which remind us of the infinite power of human stupidity, are added social tensions that the present crisis radicalizes
