Masked, machine guns in their hands, it is now the soldiers who guard hospitals in Serbia, as do the borders and reception centers for migrants. The state of emergency and the curfew have been established, and containment required. These are the most drastic measures in the region, the whole of which is on maximum epidemic alert. Officially, 1,000 people are infected with Covid-19 in the Balkans, including, according to the Courrier des Balkans website, 253 in Slovenia, 72 in Serbia, 69 in Croatia, 55 in Albania, 27 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 31 in Macedonia from the North, 19 in Kosovo and 2 in Montenegro. Seven deaths have been reported, four in Greece, two in Bulgaria, one in Albania. While in most of these countries the health services suffer from shortages of personnel due to the exodus abroad, of material and medicines in ordinary times, one prepares for the worst in the event of an extension of the epidemic , expected in the coming weeks.
