A few days ago, Matthias Schmale, director of operations for UNRWA, the United Nations office responsible for Palestinian refugees, compared Gaza to the Diamond Princess , this cruise ship infected with the Covid-19 off the coast of Japan. The virus had spread at high speed in the closed corridors contaminating 700 of the 3,700 passengers. It could attack two million people in the small strip of Palestinian land, blockaded by its Israeli and Egyptian neighbors for thirteen years, while hospitals have only 60 intensive care beds.
The disaster has so far been postponed due, no doubt, to the confinement suffered by the inhabitants. Never short of humor, local social networks joked that Gaza was " the safest place in the world ". Only Palestinian workers or a few sick people with safe conducts, aid workers and journalists were allowed to borrow
