US Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo arrived in Doha, Qatar on Monday to meet Taliban leaders for the first time three weeks after signing an already threatened historic deal.
The secretary of state "will meet with Taliban officials, including Mullah Baradar, their chief negotiator, to urge them to continue to abide by the agreement signed last month , " said his spokesman.
Pompeo had previously paid a surprise visit to Kabul to put pressure on Afghan political leaders to overcome their differences and establish a united government capable of entering into peace negotiations with the Taliban.
