A 35-year-old man, charged eight times for failing to comply with the confinement obligations linked to the coronavirus, was sentenced on Tuesday to four months in prison and imprisoned in the Loire.

According to the Saint-Etienne prosecutor's office, this resident of Chambon-Feugerolles was on parole, but returned behind bars to the La Talaudière detention center, convicted of "endangering the lives of others" by the criminal court. His criminal record already mentioned 16 convictions for drug use, travel without a ticket, theft, concealment and contempt.

Up to six months in prison

In the same department, a 19-year-old resident of Saint-Chamond, tried for similar facts in immediate appearance, was given a four-month suspended prison sentence for two years.

Already known to the justice too, he had been fined 10 times by the police in recent days as part of the containment control of the population.

France entered Tuesday for two months in a state of health emergency, a regime which hardens in particular the repression in this area. The violation of the confinement rules is punished with a fine of 135 euros, 1,500 euros in the event of recidivism "within 15 days" and in the case of "four violations within thirty days", the offense is "punished with 3,700 euros to a fine and a maximum of six months in prison ”.

"The constitution of this offense will therefore be much faster and automatic, which should encourage the disqualification of the individuals concerned," said the public prosecutor in Saint-Etienne, David Charmatz.

In Albertville (Savoie), the prosecution Tuesday placed a 26-year-old man in pre-trial detention after five verbal charges, pending his appearance in court this weekend, according to regional press.
