(CNN Spanish) - At a press conference, the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, announced on Tuesday the 21st case of coronavirus in the country. He also reported that almost 1,000 people are in supervised quarantine, including those who entered the country by land.

Giammattei also announced measures to mitigate the economic crisis that Guatemala could face, derived from the emergency unleashed by covid-19.

The interest rate has been lowered by up to 50% for those who need loans to pay payrolls or need to capitalize their businesses, the president said.

Most insurance companies in Guatemala have included medical care for this pandemic within their insurance policies.

Much of banking in Guatemala has relaxed credit risk, with payments deferred for three months, postponing the installment for up to three months without affecting the credit record.
