Human Rights Commission calls for the easing of sanctions on Iran, Venezuela and Cuba

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has called for a reassessment of all large-scale sectoral sanctions imposed on countries afflicted by the Coronavirus pandemic, such as Iran, Cuba and Venezuela.

The United States pursues a policy of economic terrorism and unilateral sanctions outside the authority of the Security Council and international legitimacy targeting all sectors of medical, health, humanitarian and financial services to pressure and non-compliant countries.

Bachelet warned in a statement posted on the United Nations news site "of the effects of the collapse of any health system in any country on the entire world with the outbreak of the" Covid 19 "virus, adding that" at this critical time and for global and public health reasons, and in order to support the right to life for millions of people in These countries, sanctions should be eased or suspended.

In addition to exempting from sanctions, Bachelet called for "granting quick permits for these countries to obtain essential medical equipment and supplies and urged countries to show flexibility in this regard."

In a message he sent earlier this month to a number of heads of state in the world, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed the need to intensify efforts and public participation in combating the Corona pandemic, setting joint health protocols between neighbors, and breaking and abolishing the unjust US embargo against peoples in view of the current global conditions.
