One health disaster can hide another. The situation in the “ case di riposo ”, the Italian nursing homes, has for the moment been overshadowed by the dramatic situation of the hospitals, which occupies all the media space. But it is slowly emerging, even if there are half as many people in Italian retirement homes as in France (300,000 against more than 605,000 in France in 2016 according to INSEE).

But most of these occupants are in the North, especially in Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto, where the virus strikes the hardest.
