Include all patients in a clinical trial

2020-03-25T19:18:34.513Z

Resuscitators want to allow everyone to benefit from one of the potentially active treatments against the virus.

It is a call to all the sick and their families. "We need you" , launch, in a text distributed in particular on the Figaro website, 56 medical teachers out of the 58 in the French Language Resuscitation Society (SRLF). Objective: to be able to benefit all patients, everywhere in France, from one of the potentially active treatments against the virus. Because resuscitation has its limits: "Our services allow us to implement continuous monitoring, respiratory assistance and other treatments in order to save time and allow the body to fight" , write the doctors. But of drug having proven its effectiveness, there is not yet one. And the media sequence around chloroquine pushes too many patients to claim it, while its effectiveness against the coronavirus is far from being certain… Three treatments are currently in the running: the now famous chloroquine, an anti-malarial. Remdesivir, an antiviral already tested on Ebola and being tested against the coronavirus in several countries; it seems in vitro capable of blocking the replication of the virus; Finally, Kaletra or its generics, a combination of two antivirals (lopinavir and ritonavir) used against HIV. Other avenues could be added as research progresses. All patients in intensive care (or their families if they are unable to give their consent) will therefore be asked to participate in this clinical research of unparalleled scope. "There is no possible alternative to advance medical knowledge," write the resuscitators.

Coronavirus: call for resuscitators to mobilize for clinical research

To our patients and their families,

With the viral epidemic due to SARS-Cov2, France is currently going through the biggest health crisis in its history. We, resuscitators, are mobilized every day on the front line to manage the serious forms of this disease. Our services allow us to implement continuous monitoring, respiratory assistance and other treatments to save time and allow the body to fight this virus and survive the disease. We have several potential treatments directed against the virus, but to date, none has demonstrated its effectiveness against this disease. If you or one of your loved ones is hospitalized in our services, we will ask you to participate in a clinical research study whose objective is to identify in the most rigorous and scientific way possible the best treatment to fight against COVID-19 virus. There is no possible alternative to advance medical knowledge. There is no alternative for tomorrow so that we can treat you even better than today. We need you. Help us by agreeing to participate in our clinical research studies. You can count on us to treat you, we count on you to advance knowledge on this disease.
