Chile will prosecute those who fail to quarantine for coronavirus 0:37
(CNN Spanish) - This Wednesday, the Chilean Health Minister, Jaime Mañalich, announced "total quarantine" for seven communes in the Santiago Metropolitan Region. With the measure, the government seeks to stop the expansion of the coronavirus in the country, which so far has left three deaths and 1,142 confirmed cases.
"The time has come to instruct collective isolation in their homes to a whole population where the high incidence of the largest number of new cases is concentrated," Mañalich said at a press conference from the Palacio de La Moneda.

The announcement implies that at least “1,341,000 people from the city of Santiago must remain at their homes from this Thursday at 10:00 pm, which begins the curfew, and for a renewable period of 7 days, except for exceptions related to health services, basic emergency services and others that will be established in the next few hours, ”explained Mañalich.
The total quarantine will affect the communes of Lo Barnechea, Vitacura, Las Condes, Providencia, Ñuñoa, Santiago and Independencia. In addition, there will be a sanitary customs office at the main entrances to the city of Santiago, where health controls will be carried out to verify compliance with the established quarantine.
