Even before the outbreak of the Corona crisis, the girls and boys of the Isarbiber kindergarten were allowed to follow a stocking campaign with young fish on the Isar.

Bad Tölz / Arzbach - Before the closing of their kindergarten, the girls and boys from the "Isarbiber" kindergarten in Arzbach and their educators had an unplanned experience: the children were allowed to stock fish with young fish on the Isar almost on the doorstep of their facility follow the district fishing association (BFV) Bad Tölz.

"Overall, we, and the Lenggries fishing association, have released 40,000 small brown trout at various points," reports Michael Gilgenreiner, second chairman of the BFV Bad Tölz. In addition to the enthusiastic children, many guests came: among others, Dora Schützen from the Weilheim Water Management Office (WWA), Helmut Henkel from the Lenggries River Master's Office, Christian Lechermenn from the Bad Tölz Public Utilities, Manfred Haff and Kurt Schreier from the Bad Tölz Fishing Association and Mathias Brunhuber from the State Fisheries Association. With the fish stocking, the structural improvements and gravel mobilization measures that had been carried out for months between the municipal areas of Lenggries and Gaißach came to an end.

Children loved it

With this, the WWA carried out the decision of the Bavarian state parliament to "convert the Isar back into a cultivated wild river" and pushed the implementation of the EU water directives. In plain language: structures were improved, sanded side arms and old water reactivated and spawning grounds created. "This was carried out in exemplary fashion by the river master station Lenggries in particularly structurally poor sections," praised Manfred Haff, honorary board member from Tölz.

Some side arms and old waters have now been connected to the main river again. Water control measures were required to ensure constant flow. This was done using large hydraulic blocks. In the side arms, dead wood nests that are installed and anchored in a flood-proof manner provide the young fish with excellent habitats. The newly created habitats offer the best prerequisites for building up a self-supporting wild fish population.

Suitable habitat created for birds

Bird life was also considered. Overgrown gravel banks were cleared of willow bushes and grass cover. Thus, for example, the Little Ringed Plover now has a suitable habitat again.

The district fishing association received grants for the stocking costs from WWA Weilheim, Stadtwerke Bad Tölz and LBV. As a further measure, the municipal utilities are trying to maintain the fish pass on the Tölzer Reservoir.
