More than 7,800 additional places are now mobilized in hotels to house the homeless during the coronavirus epidemic, as well as 2,800 places in 73 containment sites for the homeless sick, announced Sunday the Ministry of Housing.

"The device has accelerated sharply in recent days and the ramp-up continues," said a statement from the ministry. In all, “172,000 people will be accommodated this evening in general emergency accommodation structures” .
The 73 medical sites are "dedicated to homeless people with Covid-19 but who are not hospitalized" . They represent nearly 2,800 places in 60 departments, including Mayotte and Reunion. The ministry plans to eventually 80 structures of this type.

In addition, an exceptional service voucher distribution system was launched on April 1, which enables homeless people to buy food and hygiene products during the health crisis, the ministry's press release said. The 7,800 additional hotel accommodation places are in addition to the 157,000 places already funded by the State, including 14,000 winter places extended until the end of May.
